Green Island Vision has been blessed once again by American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) and their dynamic Tanya Weaver! In July we hosted two AFCA Vacation with a Purpose teams at our base camp, Morning Star in the Matopos, Zimbabwe. It is hard to explain how much they blessed us and our community, with their enthusiasm, humor and dedication to get their allotted tasks completed. These pictures are a glimpse into some of the activities that took place, including beehive checking, fence building, bush/firebreak clearing, assisting with the goats. 🐝 🐐
No sooner had they departed on their safari when we received an incredible donation from AFCA - items for the clinics, our sewing projects and our needy community members; birthing kits for the clinics so each birth has its own sterilized, ready to use kit consisting of cord clamps, gloves, etc. Many of these basic items are often not available in Zimbabwe clinics, making this donation so precious. 🙏🏼 Baby kits consist of baby clothes, bootees, diapers, wrapping blankets. Often this gift is the first items a mother has for her new baby. These kits are distributed to our partner clinics in our rural districts who then are able to hand them out to the mothers as they leave for their homes. For the Ladies Sewing projects we received boxes packed full of fabrics and sewing items. Much of this will be used in workshops for teaching sewing skills, and also to make up more baby kits. 🧵
To AFCA, Tanya and the teams, thank you for your continued support, without which we could not be able to do the work we have been called to do here in the Matopos. 🙏🏼 Gary and Di.
